ELI's mission and concept
ELI intends to become the leading institution connecting
and facilitating applied landscape research and science
networking.
ELI considers itself to become the most acknowledged
provider of and major contact point for subjective and
unbiased management and policy-relevant information on
European landscapes and their use and management.
ELI will connect and mobilise European landscape
research and science to address land-use and landmanagement
questions and to support landscape policy
processes and decision making (Fig. 1):

planning connected
ELI is conceived as virtual institute at pan-European level.
The head-quarters of the institute are situated at Dresden,
coordinating the network and bundling its outcomes and
thus supporting joint research on applied landscape
issues.
The members of the institute are other institutions or
private persons in all European countries. They are
interested in contributing to landscape science and
research. Their motivation is participating at pan-
European discussion on research needs from
management and policy practice and at developing and
interlinking appropriate methodological approaches to
respond to them.
